Short Stories from the Master Storyteller
Quote from the TOR Hardbound Edition: "What makes a bestselling author? "What combination of talent, temperament, and hard work is needed to enchant the hundreds of thousands of readers who anxiously await a bestselling author's next book? "You will find some of the answers within the pages of this book. "Piers Anthony is one of that handful of science fiction and fantasy writers who appears on bestseller lists nationwide. He burst onto the national scene in 1982 with the publication of his novel OGRE, OGRE but Piers Anthony is no overnight success. Long before OGRE, OGRE there was CHTHON, hailed by critics as an impressive literary debut, and nominated for a Hugo Award. There was MACROSCOPE, another Hugo nominee and a classic science fiction novel. Twenty-five years of working, writing and struggling preceded his leap to national fame. "This book tells the tale of those years through fiction and fact. It is a sampler selected by the author's candid reminiscences of the events surrounding the creation of each work. Like his fiction, Anthony's notes are funny, witty, and provocative, and always intriguing. And that's only the beginning of what you'll find in ANTHONOLOGY. "In this book you'll encounter clouds and con-artists, a lady and a toaster, dogs, dentists (yes, dentists), a pint-sized Paul Bunyan, a tiger and a pair of love birds, a vengeful ghost, distant galaxies and a very wise monster, and a most intriguing encyclopedia. Open ANTHONOLOGY and enter the worlds of Piers Anthony -- wacky, wise, wonderful, and always fantastic. "Piers Anthony is the author of the Magic of Xanth series, the Bio of a Space Tyrant series, the Cluster series, the Tarot series, MACROSCOPE, CHTHON, OMNIVORE, and most recently ON A PALE HORSE ... to name only a few of his more than thirty books. Anthony lives with his wife and two children in a forest in Florida." Webmaster's Note: Why Ogre, Ogre was singled out as Piers' "burst to fame" is unclear at this time. I thought originally TOR, who published this novel, may have started publishing Xanth at that time. But TOR did not start Xanth until Demons Don't Dream. So why did thy skip over the first five novels of Xanth to highlight the sixth? Was Ogre, Ogre the first novel to make a national bestseller list? More research will need to be done. ![]() |
