DoOon Mode Hardbound Edition

DoOon Mode, the long-awaited, never-before-published fourth and final chapter in Piers Anthony's rousing and exotic Mode saga has just now been released!.

Story Synopsis ...

Beyond the world we know there is a multiverse of Modes where many strange realities interlock in an infinitely intricate pattern, and a perverse and deranged Emperor plays a deadly multi-dimensional game with human pawns as his slaves.

Into this remarkable realm comes a young woman from our own world, fleeing a troubled and abusive past. In her quest to defeat the terrors of her own mind, she will play a crucial role in this awesome cosmic battle.

Summary ...

The many fans of Piers Anthony's Xanth adventures were delighted when he created a thrilling new science fantasy series with the publication of Virtual Mode a decade ago. The saga of Colleen, a troubled young girl from a harsh environment who escapes into a fantastic realm of multiple realities, the Mode series combined colorful and imaginative storytelling with thoughtful consideration of serious concerns, including depression, suicide, and abuse.

Two more volumes (Fractal Mode and Chaos Mode) followed, introducing Anthony's readers to an exotic and engaging cast of cosmic characters: Sequiro, a telepathic horse who understands Colleen's deepest secrets; Burgess, a bizarre alien being who is prepared to defend her to the death; Tom, Cat and Pussy, three sly and seductive feline companions; and Darius, the handsome young king who hopes to heal Colleen's heart and become her lover.

Now, with DoOon Mode, Piers Anthony at last delivers the breathtaking climax to this awesome saga. Fearing Colene's dawning power, the depraved Emperor Ddwng dispatches a terrible Mind Monster to assault her soul and bend her to his will. To protect herself, and those she loves, Colleen must journey back throught the many worlds to her own home on Earth, face her darkest fears, and draw the strength for a final confrontation to save the multiverse from tyranny and domination.

Comments from Piers ...

Excerpt from Piers' Letter
Dated Jamboree 29, 1999

"The 4th Mode novel, DoOon Mode is now in progress. I have written the first two chapters, about 25,000 words. I realized that it would be confusing to introduce seven characters all at once, because not everyone would remember them all from the prior novels.

Chapter 1 takes place at the capital world of the DoOon Mode, where evil Emperor Ddwng plots to get back an anchor, capture the Mode travelers, and make them fetch the Chip that will enable him to despoil all other Modes.

"The three Feline nulls, Tom, Pussy, and Cat, compete with other null teams to be the ones to join the Mode travelers and fetch the Chip. They make an alliance with the Caprines; Buck, Doe, and Goat, and with their help fight off the treacherous ambush of Swine Boar, Sow, and Pig, to win.

"In Chapter 2 depressive Colene discovers their party captive, without the mind powers of her horse Sequiro, so they are helpless. But she plots to get free anyway, winning the loyalty of the Felines by nullifying the fearsome dragon that preys on their kind. Colene can now read minds, a little, so is more formidable than Ddwng realizes. Never trust a depressive telepathic girl.

"Okay, there it is. Next month in Chapter 3, I'll get them back on the Virtual Mode. This was originally intended to as an open ended series, like Xanth, but bad marketing spoiled it, and so this fourth novel should finish it." Webmaster's Note: DoOon Mode does finish the series.
