In the tradition of Sindbad

The Good Magician HumpreyHasan (Tor Paperback) Summary from Tor Paperback Edition:

"In the days of Sindbad, the handsome young merchant Hasan quests forth from Bassorah, seeking great wealth. But Lo! The Hand of Allah set the youth upon a rarer journey—into the heart of deadly adventure, unearthly peril ... and magic."

"Enslaved by the alchemist Bahram, bound into a camel's corpse and left on the Mountain of Clouds to be devoured by a roc—such is but the beginning of Hasan's destiny. For he has entered a world of mighty jinns and hideous ifrits, amazon empires and bejeweled jungle palaces, enigmatic wizards and cloistered virgin princesses. And to know his life's desire, Hasan must twice capture the love of the bird-maiden Sana—the world's most beautiful woman, child of the vengeful king of jinns on the dreaded Isles of Wak!"

"Harken ye now to a tale of exotic mystery, sensuous beauty, and strange sorcery."

Summary from Dell Paperback Edition:

"More marvelous than the fantastic voyages of Sinbad (sic); an Aladdin's lamp filled with magic, treasure, and romance. Hasan, destitute son of a merchant, was lured by the infidel alchemist Bahram over seas of otherworldly treachery into the heart of mystery and magic."

"Seeking the secret of transforming copper into gold, the young innocent reached the fabled land of Serendip, where seven king's daughters lived in enchanted exile. Here, the exquisite Bird Princess captured his heart, and he took her prisoner ... only to have her escape him."

"In pursuit of her, he would be transported through sorcerous lands of jinns and ifrits to a confrontation that threatened to tear the world—and his heart—asunder."

Summary from Borgo Trade Paperback Edition:

The carcass shook and the upper wall depressed against him heavily. The bird was on top of it, crushing him! A giant thorn, a hooked spear poked through the wall inches from his face. It was a talon of horrifying size. Six inches long, an inch thick at the base ... and what he saw was only the tip of it ... the monstrous beat of wind began again, a hurricane of air smashing the ground. Dust swirled into his breathing-hole. The roc was taking off!
