The Compleat Piers AnthonyPossible to Rue Short Story |
|
Piers' first professionally published story. It first appeared in Fantastic in the April 1963 issue, on pages 120-123. Story Synopsis ... The little son of a wealthy man wants a pet for his birthday. "Whatever you want," exclaims the father. Well, the boy wants a Pegasus. The father, knowing it does not exist, proves it to the boy by grabbing the encyclopedic edition for that entry. Not only do they find the Pegasus doesn't exist, but the reference also mentions that the common horse, which the Pegasus is based on, does not exist either! It is downhill from there as the father looks up pet after pet. Is everything legendary? Do any animals exist? Read this cute story to find out. ![]() |
