Story Synopsis ...

Your pain is my pleasure!

The generic trap had condemned Aton-Five to a tortured existence. Half standard human and half mutant descendant of the forbidden Minionettes, to whom hatred and sexual cruelty were the very breath of life, Aton fought against his own instincts to win a place for himself among normal humankind. Yet both more and less than human, he fell easy prey to an unseen foe.

Imprisoned on Chthon, the world he mistakenly thought he'd freed permanently from its reign of terror, Aton was forced by his captors into a training program calculated to turn him into the ultimate tool of unreasoning destruction. But even his tyrannical master didn't understand just how deadly a weapon Aton was becoming. For they themselves were enslaved by a higher power, an intelligence sworn to transform Aton into the betrayer of all living things!

Author Information ...

Charles Platt's science fiction includes Twilight of the City, a study of urban decay at the turn of the century, and Less Than Human (under the pseudonym Robert Clarke), which applies a humorous treatment to traditional SF themes, His nonfiction includes computer books and the highly praised Dream Makers series, profiling fifty-seven of the best known science fiction authors in the field (including an interview with Piers Anthony).

Platt is the onetime editor of New Worlds, a radical British magazine of the late 1960's . He now lives in New York City, where in addition to writing novels, he is science fiction editor for the publisher Franklin Watts.
