Summary:

Xanth, home to centaurs, Gorgons, ogres and the like, is a magic land where the Good Magician Humfrey has Answers for everyone, if only they can figure out their Questions.

Now trouble is brewing in Xanth, and three young folk are after Humfrey's Answers. Esk, son of Tandy the nymph and Smash the ogre, must find a way to evict a demoness from his private hideout. Chex, the winged centaur, can't quite figure out how to fly. And Volney the vole is desperate to stop demons from ruining his neighborhood.

But at Humfrey's castle, they find a worse problem still- the Good Magician and his family have disappeared without a trace!
